The Farm-stay

Near Amritsar

Located near the holy city of Amritsar, Punjab Village Farm is comfortable 90 mins drive from Golden Temple or Amritsar airport.

Punjab Village Farm is the best hotel near Amritsar in the farm stay category, which provides the most authentic farm and village experience near Amritsar.

It is a scenic countryside farm stay surrounded by acres & acres of working fields and many canals; it provides the tranquil atmosphere of a rural home on a farm in Punjab. A small canal, 500+ fully grown trees & ample birdlife at the farm make it a nature lover’s heaven.

Cottages

Punjab Village Farm takes inspiration from its traditional mud architecture that dates back to 3000 BC when the Harappan/Indus Valley civilization developed along the Indus River, one of the five rivers of Punjab.

The Cottages are built in a traditional mud house style with the extensive use of mud, baked mud bricks, and timber. The walls are plastered with mud-straw mixture. While the interiors are whitewashed using lime, the exteriors are coated with cow dung & mud mixture, which naturally keeps the rooms cool in summer and warm in winter. This architectural style blends perfectly into the rural landscape of Punjab.

Our Food

Punjab Village Farm boasts of its authentic, home style Punjabi cuisine which is fresh, healthy, sumptuous and easy on the palate – in the words of our guests “a great respite after gorging on the oily and spicy dhaba food of Amritsar”.

We grow our own fully organic grains, seasonal vegetables, herbs, and some fruits on the farm. Milk, butter, ghee, curd, buttermilk and eggs, etc are sourced from the farmers in the villages around.

Activities

Farm walk: Enjoy a leisurely walk amidst the endless expanse of live farms around. Not many things in life are more calming than a stroll in the colorful fields, rural scenery, sounds of nature, and the chirping of birds. Say aloud “Sat Sri Akaal” (Greetings in Punjabi) to the farmers to hear their equally loud and warm greeting in reply with a bright smile on their faces.

Countryside cycling: Cycling through the beautiful countryside is the best way to observe the locals at your own pace. There are various cycling loops to choose from, ranging from a few hundred meters (in and around our farm) to a few kilometers through villages, crossing canals, or touching the River Beas.

Be a farmer for an hour:  A visit to a farm is incomplete without the experience of working with soil, plants, crops, etc. We would like to invite you to become a farmer for an hour for a deeper understanding of farm life. Depending on the season & crop, you may try your hands on simple farming tasks like sowing weeding, tilling, mulching, watering, pruning, harvesting, etc.

Tractor ride: Tractors played a major role in the success of the Green Revolution of the 1970s in Punjab and became an inseparable part of the life of Punjabi farmers. Enjoy a ride on a tractor on the country back roads and visit the nearby village or the Gurudwara. You may also try to learn how to drive this gentle giant, with the farmer as an instructor by your side.
